Why Is It Important To Cleanse The Colon?

If you have regular bowel movements and are not prone to bouts of constipation you might believe that cleansing your colon periodically is totally unnecessary. Actually, even when you are regular there will always be some amount of waste matter and undigested foods that will just sit in your intestines putrefying. Over time this can and usually does create problems.

The intestines have a mucous lining that tends to collect waste matter and those bits of undigested foods. Bacteria grows and festers and a myriad of infections and diseases can develop. In order to prevent this it is recommended that the colon be cleansed at least once or twice each year.

Scientists and doctors believe that by cleansing the colon periodically many life-threatening diseases like colon cancer can be avoided. Polyps naturally develop in the colons of people over fifty, but by keeping toxins from growing near and around them it is felt that they can stay benign.

Also, diseases like irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulitis can be avoided by keeping the digestive tract free of toxins and disease causing bacteria. It is important to remember that stool softeners and laxatives don’t totally clear the colon out.

They simply stimulate contractions that facilitate bowel movements. The bowel is only the first 6 feet or so of the large intestine. There are many, many more feet of intestine that also need to be cleared.

If you are still wondering how important it is to keep the digestive tract cleansed and detoxified, remember that there is a lot of emphasis on high fiber diets. If not to keep the colon clean, why do doctors everywhere suggest we eat a diet high in fiber? Obviously it is well known that it is necessary in order to maintain a healthy, disease free colon.
