When Is Colon Cleansing Necessary?
Although there are people who claim that the colon should be cleansed on a daily basis, it really isn’t necessary unless you exhibit symptoms that indicate something is going on that should be treated or dealt with. For instance, although you would expect a bowel movement to be odorous, it should not be inordinately foul smelling. Sometimes a strong smell can indicate a build up of gasses in the intestines which would indicate that there is a buildup of toxins which need to be flushed.
Then there are times that for no apparent reason you seem to be tired all the time and just plain sluggish. If you feel bloated at the same time it is a very good indicator that you have a build up of undigested foods and fecal matter that needs to be eliminated. Unfortunately, being fatigued can also be indicative of any number of illnesses or diseases so proper medical diagnosis might be in order. If there appears to be no systemic or acute illnesses pointing to your fatigue it might just be time to cleanse and detoxify your digestive tract.
Also, people who have trouble losing weight find that cleansing their colon at the beginning of a new weight loss regimen also helps to jumpstart their diet. This leads to better digestion and increased metabolism which starts the pounds coming off and if you keep the colon cleansed throughout the weight loss process, the pounds continue dropping easily because nutrients are getting through to fuel metabolism.
It appears to be a consensus among naturopaths and holistic practitioners that regular colon cleansing is in order to maintain good health. Most often it is recommended that you do a thorough cleansing about 2 to 3 times annually and that should be sufficient if you eat sensibly throughout the remainder of the year. Refrain from eating processed foods and get sufficient dietary fiber and it should not be necessary to do a total cleanse any more often than that.
