What is Colonic Irrigation And Is It Dangerous?
Colonic irrigation is also referred to as hydrotherapy because it is a process for cleansing the colon by flushing it with at least several gallons of water.
Special equipment is utilized in order to flush the whole colon. The principle is same to using an enema; however, the enema just flushes water through the lower colon. High colonics or colonics as they are often called are meant to treat the entire colon in order to flush toxins, mucous, impacted fecal matter and sometimes even parasites.
There are certain inherent dangers to colonic irrigation and it should ONLY be undertaken by a qualified medical professional. Probably the most prevalent danger would be the risk ruptures caused by the water pressure which is used to flush the colon.
When toxins and fecal matter escape outside the colon into the peritoneal cavity a life threatening infection can develop. This is known as peritonitis. You may have heard that when a person has appendicitis and it ruptures it can be life-threatening. This is the same principle. It usually requires treatment with IV antibiotics.
Unless there is some serious, life-threatening blockage it is felt that natural colon cleansing supplements are much safer. There is less risk involved and they can safely and effectively flush built up waste and toxins through the digestive tract. Again, it is imperative that only qualified medical practitioners even attempt colonic irrigation because of the risk involved.
