What Is Colonic Hydrotherapy And Is It Healthy?
Colonic hydrotherapy is often used synonymously with colon irrigation. It is a procedure that introduces water to the colon in order to attempt to completely flush it out. Some people refer to this as an enema. The process is the same, no matter what you call it. I feel that the purpose behind flushing the colon has a lot to do with how you “name” it.
Let’s take a look at what happens. By introducing increasing amounts of fluid into the rectum and colon through the anus you are forcing the colon to expand. It is filled with water that when expelled also takes with it any waste material that is still in the colon.
Now, although the terminology can be used interchangeably, there really is a subtle difference. Whenever you see the term “therapy” you think of something that is good for you. Consequently, colonic hydrotherapy is often seen as a therapeutic means of cleansing the colon to achieve optimum health. The intention is to cleanse the lower intestines of waste material that if allowed to sit there will putrefy and cause all manner of diseases.
Colon irrigation does not necessarily have to be therapeutic. Often the colon is “irrigated” prior to medical procedures in order for the medical professional to be able to get a visual diagnostic. The same procedure is utilized but the purpose may be different. Also, dyes and other diagnostic chemicals may be introduced to the colon at the same time.
Although the method of introducing fluids to the colon is the same, the reason for flushing has a lot to do with what you call it.
