What Is Colon Hydrotherapy and Does It Work?
While it is currently a well known fact that keeping the colon cleansed of undigested foods and toxic fecal matter that hasn’t been eliminated efficiently can reduce the risk of various illnesses and diseases, one form of cleansing that is especially dangerous is Colon Hydrotherapy. If it is performed by a trained medical professional who follows strict procedural guidelines it may not carry as great a potential for serious risks, however, because it is an invasive procedure there will always be some degree of danger.
In Colon Hydrotherapy warm water is fused into the colon via the anus through disposable plastic tubing with the intent of flushing out a build up of waste and toxins. Usually this warm water is combined with an oxygen-based cleanser in order to loosen up impacted fecal matter for easier removal.
Here is where the problems can occur. First of all, oxygen-based cleansers can bubble up and cause a rupture in the walls of the colon as can the plastic tubing if it is not inserted correctly or carefully. Once those toxins escape into the peritoneal cavity, an infection can occur which could be life-threatening. You have heard of a ruptured appendix causing peritonitis, and this would be the exact same kind of infection.
Because of the risks involved many people are opting for safer, less invasive cleansers. Also, Colon Hydrotherapy is local to the colon or large intestines only. Many people prefer cleansing the entire digestive tract. While there are still large numbers of Colon Hydrotherapy advocates out there, it is still the least common of colon cleansing therapies in use today.
