However, you should not think that a low fat diet means a complete abandonment of fat intake. In fact, some kinds of fats like omega 3 fatty acids are very essential for having a healthy body.

A low fat diet is very good for maintaining lower levels of cholesterol in the body. It is extremely beneficial even for the heart patients. Several researches have proved that such diets also help in prevention of cancer.

A low fat diet includes eating smaller quantity of “good fat” and avoiding harmful fat. While following a low fat diet, you should completely avoid the food items, which contains Trans fats. Cookies, muffins, pastries, pies, cereals, potato chips, French fries are some of the food items which contains a lot of Trans fat. Moreover, you should also not eat any deep fried food items. It is also recommended to check the ingredients of all processed food items, before you eat them.

In addition to this, you should take a very limited quantity of saturated fats. You should lower down the intake of butter, cheese, cream and other full fat dairy products. Instead of cooking your food with palm oil or coconut oil, use canola or soybean oil. While on a low fat diet, you should order your food steamed, grilled or baked instead of fried, in case you are eating outside.
