Tests for Checking your Colon
Your colon processes the waste of your body. It can contract many kinds of diseases. There are many ways that will enable your doctor to check the health of your colon. If you see your doctor with a complaint concerning your digestive processes, he will recommend various colon tests.
One such test is the barium enema. In this test, a liquid called barium is put into your rectum. Then an of your large intestine is done. Barium makes your intestine look white in the pictures while abnormal growth looks dark. Another test is the sigmoidoscopy. With this test, the doctor puts a thin, flexible tube into your rectum to look at the last third of your large intestine. The colonoscopy is another test that is a little bit similar to a sigmoidoscopy. The doctor looks at the entire large intestine with a long, tube that has a camera. The tube has a tool that can remove abnormal growth or polyps.
A computerized tomography (CT) scan, on the other hand, is called virtual colonoscopy. This is where the doctor puts a thin, flexible tube into your rectum and a machine using x rays and computers displays pictures that the doctor will analyze. Another test is the stool test. Changes in DNA in a person’s stool will tell if the patient has cancer.
These tests are important in determining the condition of your colon.
