Is Herbal Colon Detoxification Safer Than Colonic Irrigation?
We have all been made aware of the fact that an unhealthy colon is responsible for a multitude of illnesses and maladies. Proponents of colon cleansing maintain that periodic cleansing clears the way for nutrients to be more readily absorbed into the body. It is their contention that waste matter and undigested foods remain in the digestive tract and must periodically be flushed out. If this matter sits there it putrefies and causes all manner of illnesses.
You may be wondering which is safer, colonic irrigation or an herbal colon cleansing supplement. Because colonic irrigation, or colonic hydrotherapy as it is sometimes called, is an invasive procedure it has certain inherent dangers. When the colon is irrigated a long tube is inserted into the colon through the anus.
Water is then injected increasingly until the entire length of the intestines are filled with water and expand in order to flush out any toxic waste material. Another tube is utilized to drain the matter out. Known dangers include perforation of the colon which can be extremely life threatening. There have been reported deaths due to heart failure because too much fluid was absorbed by the body during colonic irrigation.
There are few, if any, known adverse effects to Colon Detoxification. Detoxifying the colon involves taking a supplement where the key active ingredient if fiber. The fiber expands in the intestines when mixed with water and, in effect, pushes everything out. The most common fiber is psyllium and there are no known reports of allergies to it.
Because colon detoxification is accomplished by and herbal supplement it is, by its very nature, infinitely safer than an invasive medical procedure. Although herbal supplements are known to be safe it is always advisable to consult your physician before taking one for the first time.
