Is Colon Hydrotherapy Better Than Colonic Irrigation?
Colonic Hydrotherapy and Colonic Irrigation are considered to be the same thing, but is this true? Or could one procedure not only be different from the other, but better for some patients? The truth is, there is no difference between the two treatments, they are one and the same thing.
Colonic Hydrotherapy Uses Water
Colonic Hydrotherapy uses water to achieve the objective of flushing out the colon. The common term for this procedure is colonic irrigation using water. Commonly the water is enhanced with an enema preparation to assist in the scouring and cleansing of the colon, making sure any toxins or food particles have been removed completely. The ‘hydro’ denotes the use of water as the main component and ‘therapy’ that it does something, it has a job to do and is beneficial, or therapeutic, to the recipient.
Irrigating The Colon As A Regular Treatment
Using hydrotherapy to irrigate the colon is not something that should be carried out on a regular basis, more so if enema products are involved. If there is a genuine medical need to do regular irrigations then those will be conducted under competent medical supervision and by trained medical professionals. There are some risks involved in the procedure and these increase the more often a colonic irrigation is performed. Leaching of necessary antibodies such as probiotics can occur, leaving the patient susceptible to infection and lowering their autoimmunity levels.
Don’t Try This At Home
Despite the best advice of medical professionals across the country, there are still people who insist on conducting their own colonic irrigations at home. The risk of injury from incorrectly inserted tubing or infection from unsterilized equipment is very real. There are private colonic hydrotherapy clinics that will administer the treatment safely and according to Federal Government standards and these should be sought if the procedure is not sanctioned by your GP. Many people interested in alternative medicine see colonic irrigation and hydrotherapy as a vital first step in regaining some digestive balance in their lives. Cleaning out the gut, they believe, allows other wellness treatments to have a better chance of working.
