Is Colon Cleansing Safe For Pregnant Women?
If you are pregnant it is all the more important that you consult with your obstetrician before you go on any regimen whatsoever to cleanse your colon. It is especially not advisable for women to cleanse during the last trimester of pregnancy. During the first two trimesters, upon doctor approval, cleansing may be ok but is it advisable?
Let’s look briefly at what the colon is and what purpose it serves. The colon is actually the large intestine and it serves multiple purposes among which are the absorption of water and nutrients, and the removal of waste from the body. Almost all the vitamins and minerals from foods we eat are absorbed through the walls of the colon. Knowing this, and knowing that the fetus is also fed from the nutrients the mother is absorbing, it is all the more important that the colon is healthy.
It is said that the average person carries up to ten pounds of undigested waste material in the intestines. There are cases where people have been known to hold as much as twenty five or thirty pounds of waste in extreme cases. Imagine how even a small amount of excess waste must cause discomfort for a pregnant woman because of the very fact that her stomach is already swollen and distended with the baby in her womb. It would seem logical that she would feel a whole lot more comfortable if some of that waste were eliminated.
Unfortunately, chemical laxatives and stool softeners might be harmful to the fetus. Any natural, organic method to move waste through the intestines is always preferable, but more so during pregnancy. Perhaps a modified cleansing would be safer. It cannot be emphasized enough that you should always check with your doctor before trying to cleanse the colon. This is so much more important during pregnancy. And remember, it is never wise to cleanse your colon during the final three months.

Which would you recommend for me being that I am pregnant? I am dealing with a lot of constipation, it is unreal. I haven’t seen a dr just yet.
