Is Colon Cleansing Safe For Children?

Before embarking on cleansing your child’s colon it is important to consult your pediatrician. You always hear this warning for adults, but it is even more important whenever children are involved. Because their bodies are not fully developed their needs are different from adults. It is not advisable to use adult cleansing products on children. Also, where adults attempt to totally cleanse the colon, in your child’s case the cleansing will be modified.

Because you will not be using adult products on your child you will need to prepare your own mixture from ingredients that are available either in a health food store or an herbal apothecary. The most common ingredients are arrowroot, vitamin C crystals and bone meal. Many parents choose to mix them together in a small amount of orange juice and have their child drink it at bedtime. When the child wakes up in the morning you may choose to gently massage his/her stomach to stimulate the colon.

Colon Cleanse Zone suggests the following recipe. Thoroughly mix 2 teaspoons of arrowroot powder, ½ teaspoon of Vitamin C crystal powder, ¼ teaspoon of bone meal powder into 2 ounces of orange juice with pulp. Arrowroot powder is a mild thickening gel which soothes the intestines. Bone meal powder is a digestible form of calcium which stimulates the intestines. Again, please show this list of ingredients to your pediatrician before you administer them to your child. Many parents follow this up in the morning with probiotic supplements available from your local health food stores.

Have your child do gentle stretching exercises upon waking and don’t let him/her eat breakfast until they have been awake at least thirty minutes. Just as it is important for adults to maintain a healthy colon, so too should parents make every effort to do the same for their children.
