Is Colon Cleansing and Detoxification Dangerous?
Colon cleansing, or colon detoxification as it is sometimes called, is getting more and more press these days. Many proponents say that cleansing the digestive tract of an excess of build up bacteria and other toxins in necessary to obtaining and/or maintaining good health.
Perhaps you are considering detoxification but are leery because you have concerns as to whether or not it is safe. There may be a product that you have been wanting to try in order to irrigate your colon for the benefits you have heard it will provide. The very best advice that anyone can give you is printed right there on the label in big, bold print. “…consult their physician before taking this product.”
Probably the biggest hazard regarding colon cleansing is the possibility that if you don’t follow some simple guidelines there is the threat of becoming dehydrated. This is a huge concern if you intend to use laxatives. If you have any underlying health issues like heart or kidney disease, they can pose a very real danger.
If you take a laxative that has sodium phosphate it can cause an imbalance in your electrolytes. It is highly recommended that after consulting with your doctor, and getting a clean bill of health, if you are going to detoxify your colon drink plenty of water.
If you use an herbal supplement be sure to get a complete list of the ingredients. Just because a product is herbal and natural does not mean there are no potentially harmful side effects. Again, consult with your physician and show him the label. When he gives you the all clear, you’re good to go. (pardon the pun)
