Is Cleansing The Colon Safe For Senior Citizens and Elderly?
While proponents of colon cleansing maintain that it is safe for people of all ages, it may be all the more beneficial to senior citizens. Please consult with your physician before attempting to cleanse or detoxify your colon, especially if you intend to use a cleansing supplement as part of your plan.
If the colon’s function is impaired, it can seriously affect the digestive system and as a result the entire body can suffer as a result. Incomplete digestion means that undigested food remains in the intestines. It putrefies and creates a hyper-acidic condition. Sometimes heartburn is symptomatic of this. When there is an excess of waste matter in the intestines, the environment is ripe for disease causing bacteria, parasites, fungi and viruses. As the elderly already have weakened or compromised immune systems it is all the more beneficial to them to protect against disease causing organisms.
It is also important for seniors to try to exercise more. Although it may not be possible for them to do much, if they are ambulatory then walking is good. There are exercises designed specifically with older people in mind that help to increase circulation while gently stimulating digestion. As when taking any medications or supplements for the first time it is always advisable to consult your doctor before beginning an exercise regimen. Your doctor will also be able to advise you what exercises are within your scope.
Once you have successfully cleansed your colon of those disease causing toxins it is up to you to keep the colon in optimum shape. Remember to eat a diet high in fiber, exercise regularly, and drink plenty of water on a daily basis.
