How Do You Get Intestinal Parasites
One of the misconceptions about intestinal parasites is that you get them only from uncooked or undercooked meat. Actually, there are a number of different ways you can become exposed to intestinal parasites and undercooked meat is just one of the risks. Other risk factors include undercooked or unwashed foods (not just meat), contaminated hands or water, and believe it or not, contact with contaminated soil that is infected with the larva. This is the most common cause of infection in children. They play in sandboxes or in playgrounds and then put their hands in or near their mouths and the parasites travel down into the intestines and start colonizing.
There are two major groups of parasites that can infect the gastrointestinal tract. First there are one celled parasites, protozoans and then there are parasitic worms called helminths. Each of those major groups can be broken down into sub groups and the sad thing is that it is not unusual for two or more parasites to infect the intestines at the same time.
Although there is no way to prevent coming in contact with them 100% of the time, there is a way to avoid getting a parasitic infection with some degree of efficacy.
Cleansing and detoxification supplements are known to prevent and/or treat intestinal parasitic infections. Since we know that one of the ways that we come in contact with parasites is through unwashed or undercooked foods, special care can be given to food preparation. Also, make sure that your water source is clean and/or distilled. Wash your hands frequently and certainly before eating or touching your face. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
