History of Colon Cleansing Enemas
Colon cleansing with the use of enemas is not a new technique. In fact, enemas have been used to treat patients throughout the course of the history of medicine. It is only now that administering enemas by nurses have become a little bit uncommon. Still, there are doctors who will say that colon cleansing through enemas is one way to treat a disease.
EARLY FORM OF ENEMAS
The first enemas were called clysters. The materials of the nozzles used for these enemas were metal. But metal nozzles proved to be uneffective in colon cleansing because of the dangers they posed. Metals, after all, could puncture the colon. The solution used in these early forms of enemas were also dangerous. Of course they did not know this at first. The solution contained mineral oils. These substances, however, are toxic to the body because they are regarded as petroleum products. Other solutions also contained chemicals. These were harmful to the body as well.
NEWER FORMS OF ENEMA
Eventually, better enemas were produced. These newer enemas were made of materials that are safe to use. Enemse made of rubber, plastic, or latex were produced. But the safest material today is silicone. With regards to the solution, water-based enemas are what’s used these days. They are safe and are not toxic. Water-based solutions are the perfect colon cleansing agents.
