Combining Foods To Aid Digestion
Within the past several decades food combining has been gaining ever increasing popularity. Proponents of food combining maintain that by eating the right foods in the proper combinations not only aids in the digestive process but results in good health as a result. They say that certain food groups should never be combined. It is also stated that there are specific times of the day where certain foods should be avoided while others are to be eaten for optimal health benefits.
The number one, cardinal rule is to never ever mix protein and carbohydrates in the same meal. Carbs and proteins are digested by different digestive fluids. It is felt that when these two “juices” combine they tend to partially neutralize each other leading to partially undigested foods that remain in the digestive tract. Allowing food to sit there undigested leads to bloating, excess gas and/or constipation.
For optimum health, many advocates of food combing believe that only fresh fruit should be eaten before noon because they are low in fat and high in fiber. They are thought to jump start your system for the day because they are easy to digest. Some people believe that if they only eat fruits in the morning they will be extremely hungry. This is probably not the case because the lack of processed carbs may reduce the cravings for food.
There are many food combining diets available if you are looking to learn how to eat the correct combination of foods to promote better health. You may or may not want to use herbal or vitamin supplements. If you do wish to add supplements, please consult with your physician first. Food combining diets can help you achieve better health and, who knows, you might even lose a few pounds in the process!
